The assassin rough cut

This is the feedback for our video from the class:

The video needs to be expanded, more images/clips required.

We should also add a clip into our opening sequence of the assassin during the phone call.

The video is supposedly too fast.

Titles don't fit with the style of the film

Tattoo is unclear

I agree with some of the feedback such as the tattoo on the victims neck is unclear and we also need more footage as the video is still to short. We are going to expand our video by adding a clip of the assassin on the phone.

Title of film

The Assassin

Plot synopsis

The film is about betrayal between a gang member and his gang. In this film he is out for the kill, he is going around and killing people who have betrayed him. He does this by hanging them and leaving a mark on the neck of his victims. The reason he is killing these people is that they have gone against him, betrayed him and he doesn’t like it.

There is a well known, successful police officer who has a reputaion for solving murder cases. Although he has very little to go on, the mark is a significant clue. Eventually the killer becomes clumsy and the crucial link is made.

Opening sequences

The image we are going to get across at the beginning is that there is a serial killer working his way through a hit list of victims. Photo images are seen to add visual effect: the killer is seen scribbling out individual faces from the photo. The mark is also seen in close up – the gang signature. The film is in black and white apart from bloody images which is red.

The title and the names of the actors and production team are shown as part of the opening sequence.

Creative techniques

We have an establishing shot when we go to the crime scene to show the audience what has happened at this crime scene. We will also have a medium shot of the serial killer but we wont see his face because in the room it ill be dark and you will only see his hand manly. Close up and a p.o.v also an over the shoulder shot of the killer and over the shoulder shot of the killer ticking the book. We are having a lot of high angle shots and low angle shots of the killer and the cop. Finely we will be using zoom in most of power shot to crate the effect of the film noir.

Founding for film

We will ask the lottery to give us some money for the film we are doing. http://www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk/funding this is also the founding we are happen to get. This would be an opportunity to get it into festivals.

Brief overview of the film

The mysterious signature.

Institutions research

We have looked at the company who produced the movie ‘Sin City’. The company is called Dimension. The company has produced a lot of film noirs.

We also looked at a company called Poly Gram, they have produced a lot of crime films, however it looks like they have gone bust because the last film they produced was in 1999.

We also looked at a company called ‘regency’

they have produced other crime films such as: mirrors etc. This company is still around but there next project is not on crime film.

Audience Research

The type of audience that watch the film genre ‘film noir’ is between the age 20 - 40 years old, the reason for this is that men aged 20 – 40 like films like this as they have a lot of action in and this is what men that age like to see in movies. Film noir movies were mostly made from the early 1940s to the late 1950s in the United States, and they were usually filmed in black-and-white. In the film noir genre when it first started they were attracting the male side more than the female side because the film noir has a lot of violence and sex scenes in it, a stereotypical man like those type of films. So film noir now a day is aimed at people who like crime and investigation.

The film ‘D.O.A was published in 1950’s. The more attended audience for this film was high-class workingmen aged around 30 – 40 year old. As some people couldn’t afford to go and watch a film in those days. Sin city was released in 2005; this film was targeted at people of the younger age from 20 – 30 year old. Male and female would want to see these as well as more females are becoming interested in film noir, as they didn’t used to be interested years ago. Over the years film noir has change for the audience perspective because now people are expecting a lot out of this type of film for example to use more special effects and more action, this is apart of attracting the audience theses days.

Film Noir

These shots are the title sequences from the movie 'D.O.A' as you can see the first thing you see is the movie name 'D.O.A'. I like the font that the designer has used for the titles as it is like a shadow effect. The main characters are on the first title as they are the most important people in the movie. The title sequence ends with the producer. This title sequence gives you all of the information you could possibly want as it gives you the film title and the names of the production team.
